To Hate Losing Is Good - You Will Not Settle For Second Best

You like to win . . .

Do you hate losing?

Most of us dislike it - even though we may not say it this strongly.

We play to win and accept defeat in varying ways.

We compete hard, play hard, then with experience we then relax. Enjoying our winnings or bathing our wounds - in a figurative sense.

What is it we dislike about losing?

  • A loss of face.
  • The worst has come true.
  • This could never happen to me.
  • This should never happen to me.
  • How can this happen to me?

We are told only winners are welcome, coming second is nothing.

And that is part of the problem - the perception of failing to succeed. That coming first is all that is acceptable, the only place that counts.

Another part of the problem is that we do not compete on a level playing field. The comparison with others is fine, but perhaps this is the wrong competition, the wrong comparison.

Perform with your own best efforts is a truer way - comparing your own effort with what you have done before - to examine progress.

Is that something you could agree with?

All best,
Martin
