Living In The Moment - Makes The Most Of Now
In the here and now Living in the moment is the way ahead - so many books have written, and people have said. It must be true, right? Living in the here and now is an essential aspect of our existence. The now is what we can influence and what we should be focusing on.
Not the past. We can learn from things and people who have gone before us. And our own experience. A mistake is to try to recreate what has gone before - it was so enjoyable, exciting, fulfilling, complete - or a happy mixture. What has gone has gone. Failing to learn lessons is serious because life has this habit of throwing things up again and again until we see their place, understand their importance, slot some more wisdom and experience under our belt - and then move on. Not the future. That has not come to pass yet. Sure we can work our way towards this or that, but it may or may not happen. We need not to live in the future and what might be, but rather in the present where things just are. This gives us real understanding and appreciation of the life we have. But how do we do that with so many people reminiscing or focusing on the day (in the future) when they will have this or that, have done this or that. That is fine, if you put in the effort. Commit yourself. Dedicate yourself to your life and your goal. Meet the challenges, overcome the obstacles, learn and grown and yes the future will become the now for you - at some point. But being comfortable with ourselves here and now - in the moment - with what we are doing is the thing. Am I in the moment as I write this into this computer at work, 08:39am and before work begins. Am I happy to be me doing this? Am I appreciating the process as well as the outcome? Am I sitting back and letting life pass me by or am I an active participant? Trying my best? Savoring this moment. The breaths in and out. The stillness around. The depth within. The tranquility beyond the whirr of the air con. Appreciate the moment and your place and your experience - and you will really be living.
All best, Martin
