Your Progress In Life Can Be Measured By What You Have Become
Make your way through life Do we find in life that progress comes at a price? Or that is the way it seems? We all joke about going two steps forward and three back. But is it really a joke, or a cycle that we cannot seem to get away from? What is this journey and development after all? Some would say marching years. Others, career and examinations. Others, family and children. Others that there is no growth and only the march of time. And is this course something we can measure anyway? Is it all external achievements and accomplishments or is there a degree of internal development as well? For me, what we do in life is secondary to what goes on within us. The experience of life itself is to be found within a human being. Feeling that, watering that, nurturing that is the role we need to tap into in life. For if we don't we can stagnate. We can live a hollow life without real meaning and purpose. For why? Without real growth and appreciation of life what is the purpose of the rest of life? Just to earn a living? To pay our taxes? To grow old and not feel the song that is within each one of us? Just to read the daily paper on the same bus or train each day. To work on the same tasks each and every day. To have lunch at the same time - without fail. To get home from work and watch the various soaps on TV. To have our favorite meal on a Friday night. There must be more, much more, to life than this. Real progress is to be appreciated by our development and improvement in life. Learning and growing, finding out more about this precious existence. To give and to share with others. To experience joy and sadness, happiness and grief. To progress through life. Yet to get through all - not unscathed but in one piece. But more than that to have become more of a person in so doing.
All best, Martin
